Why Diabetes Mellitus disrupts the Normal Functioning of the Human Body
Do you know that most of the food we take is broken down into glucose; a form of sugar in the blood? And that this glucose is the principal source of fuel in the human body? The process of the breakdown of food molecules into glucose is called metabolism. So back to our topic; Diabetes Mellitus is a common kind of metabolism disorder which affects the way the human body uses digested food for energy and growth. After digestion, the glucose makes its way into the bloodstream and our cells use the glucose for energy and growth. However, glucose cannot enter the cells without the presence of insulin which makes it possible for our cells to take in the glucose and as soon as glucose enters the cells, blood-glucose levels drop. Diabetes causes the glucose level in the blood to become elevated; (a condition referred to as hyperglycemia) dues to the fact that enough insulin isn’t produced by the body.
